Savannah State Earns Split At SIAC Crossover

MOBILE, Ala.- The Savannah State volleyball defeated Tuskegee in their opening match of the SIAC Crossover on September 30 but lost to Miles in their second match to earn a split. The conference crossover was held on the campus of Spring Hill in the Arthur R. Outlaw Recreation Center.
 
SSU defeated Tuskegee 3-1.
 
Destine Langston (12) and Allena Norton (11) combined for 23 kills to lead the Lady Tigers to victory.
 
After dropping their first set 15-25, Savannah State bounced back to win the next three sets 25-19, 25-15, 25-16.
 
Jessee Grubesic had seven aces and 16 assists, Norton had four blocks, Sydney Harville had 15 assists and Kloe Ludy added 11 digs.
 
Moriah Seay led Tuskegee with 12 kills, 2 blocks and 6 digs.
 
Miles defeated SSU 3-2.
 
Savannah State captured the first set 25-14 but the Golden Bears rallied to tie the match at 1-1 with a 22-25 win in the second set. SSU won the third set 25-23 to go up 2-1 but Miles took home the victory with wins of 23-25 and 7-15 in the fourth and fifth sets.
 
Norton led the team in kills with 22 while Langston had 13 and Destiny Gaines had 10. Grubesic had 26 assists, 11 digs and three aces, and Harville had 23 assists. Gaines, Norton and Tiana Curry all had two blocks and Ludy had 21 digs.
 
Miles was led by Laila Esters (19 kills), Kayla Trawick (2 aces), Mya Broom (4 blocks), Anya Creecy (48 assists) and Chiaza Jones (19 digs).
 
Savannah State (10-5, 6-5 SIAC) will play their final non-conference match of the season on October 2 when they host Talladega at 6 p.m. in Tiger Arena.
