SAVANNAH, Ga.- Playing the second match of a three-game homestand, the Savannah State volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision to Edward Waters on October 30, 2023 in Tiger Arena.

Savannah State lost the match by scores of 16-25, 13-25, 21-25.

The setback drops the Lady Tigers to 12-11 overall and 8-10 in conference play.
Â
Both teams made 14 attack errors but Edward Waters had 48 kills while SSU had 28.

EWU raced out to a 10-4 lead in the opening set. A kill by
Destinee Langston along with an attack error by Edward Waters helped Savannah State pull within four but the visiting Tigers reeled off a 6-2 spurt to increase their lead to 16-8. SSU never got closer than seven the rest of the set.

Savannah State fell behind 0-4 in the second set and then was on the short end of a 8-2 run that put them behind 7-18.
Destiny Gaines had three kills in the second set for SSU.

The third set was a close one as it went back and forth. Savannah State trailed 11-12 but back-to-back kills by
Tiana Curry and Langston along with a error by Edward Waters gave SSU a 14-12 lead. EWU responded with a 7-0 run to re-gain the lead at 19-14. SSU got as close as 20-22 but could not rally to pull out the victory.

Allena Norton had 11 kills and three blocks for Savannah State, Curry had two aces and nine digs,
Jessee Grubesic had 23 assists and
Kloe Ludy finished with 11 digs.
Tori Lasley also had three blocks.

Edward Waters (19-5, 16-1 SIAC) received 22 kills from Fatima Ramirez, 4 blocks from Brandy Gilberry, 41 assists from Mataiya Barber and15 digs and two aces from Jenieth Guzmnan.

Savannah State will wrap up the regular season at home against Allen on November 1 at 6:30 p.m.
