Lady Tigers Drop Road Game To Benedict

COLUMBIA, S.C.– Three days after Savannah State routed Benedict in Tiger Arena, the Columbia Tigers answered in kind.

Savannah State fell to Benedict, 74-53, on Saturday after beating them 70-51 in Tiger Arena three days before. The Lady Tigers dropped to 14-5 overall and 10-4 in Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) action but remain in the No. 1 spot in the SIAC East Division.

Benedict, the reigning SIAC Champions, improved to 8-12 overall and 6-8 in SIAC.

Savannah State started out strong, outpacing Benedict 18-13 in the first quarter. By the half, though, it was all tied up at 38. Savannah State was managing a 48% clip from the floor, dropping 14-of-29 field goal attempts. Benedict was shooting 40.7%.

The third period was a game changer, however. Savannah State went 0-for-11 in the third, only scoring two points. Those came at the charity strip where the team went 2-for-8. Meanwhile, Benedict added 15 points to the board.

Tasting blood in the water, Benedict again outscored Savannah State in the final period, 21-13, going up by as much 26 points for the final rout.

Nyla Allen led the Lady Tigers with 15 points in the loss. Bria Gibbs and Amari Heard each scored 10 points.
