Lady Tigers Fall To Clark Atlanta In Overtime

ATLANTA, Ga. – No. 10 Savannah State women's basketball dropped a key Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) game at Clark Atlanta on Monday.
 
The Lady Tigers entered the fourth period against Clark Atlanta with a six-point lead. With 3:12 to play in the game, the Panthers had a five-point advantage, 57-52, following a high-scoring period for the home team.
 
But Savannah State wasn't done. Amari Heard hit a field goal and Nyla Allen tacked another on. Bria Gibbs followed their good shots with one of her own in the paint, and drew the foul on the way up. Gibbs hit the third point to give SSU a 59-57 lead with 2:13 to play.

Clark Atlanta's Corriana Evans—who led the field with 24 points on the night—hit a field goal with 1:52 to play, tying the game at 59-all. Down the final stretch, both teams failed to score as time ran out, forcing overtime.
 
SSU opened the extra period with a two good free-throws from Jashiyah Jones, taking an early 61-59 lead. But Clark responded with a 6-2 run en-route to outscoring the Lady Tigers 11-4 in the quarter for the final 70-63 win.
 
The Lady Tigers drop to 11-4 overall and 8-3 in the SIAC. Clark Atlanta improved to 8-8 overall and 7-4 in their conference schedule with the win. They continue to lead the SIAC East Division and are ranked No. 10 in the D2SIDA South Region Poll.
 
Gibbs led SSU in the loss with 17 points and eight rebounds. Heard put up 11 points while Allen scored 10. Ta'Quasia Lampkin led SSU on defense with 13 rebounds, four steals, and four blocks.
 
Savannah State returns to action on Jan. 21 when they host Edward Waters in Tiger Arena. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m.
