ALBANY, Ga. – Savannah State Volleyball opened the season on the road this year, playing in a tri-match on Saturday in Brunswick and in Albany on Tuesday.

On Tuesday, Savannah State fell to Albany State in three close sets. The match also opened Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) play for the year.

In the opening set, Albany State broke a 4-all tie with a four-point run. The offensive spurt was enough to keep the home team in the lead down the stretch. The Golden Rams took set one 23-19.

Savannah State bounced back at the beginning of set two with a 6-0 run, capped by back-to-back kills from freshmen Allena Norton. The Lady Tigers stayed with Albany midway through the set until the Golden Rams broke away with a late 5-2 run to seal up the 25-19 win in set two.

Down 0-2, Savannah State kept fighting into the third set. Destinee Langston recorded a kill late in the set and Albany State committed an error to tie the set up at 22-all. Jaeda Austin recorded a kill to lift Savannah State to a 23-22 lead and give the Lady Tigers a chance at the win.

But Albany State recorded three consecutive kills, two from Khamari Trotter, to seal up the 3-0 match win.

Norton led the Lady Tigers with seven kills on the night, followed by Langston (6). Kloe Ludy led in digs with 16, also followed by Langston (13).

In the Lady Tigers season opener on Saturday, they fell to Point University in straight sets, 13-25, 20-25, 17-25. In match two of the day, Savannah State lost to Coastal Georgia 16-25, 8-25, 16-25.
