Softball Drops Two In Final Day Of SIAC Crossover

JASPER, Ala. – Savannah State softball closed out the 2022 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Crossover on Sunday with two losses.

In the opening game of the day, the Lady Tigers fell to Tuskegee 0-10. The Golden Tigers opened with six runs in the first inning and tacked on three more in the fifth. The Lady Tigers were unable to answer and the game was called in the fifth inning.

Savannah State had a stronger showing in game two of the day against Lane College. The Lady Tigers opened with a single run in the first. Lane College tacked on two runs in the first and then five more in the second inning.

Trailing 1-7 into the third inning, Jalexia Wright got things moving to open the inning with a bunt single. JaNesa Robinson then reached on a single and Morgan Green scored them both with a double to left field. Morgan later scored on an error to cut Lane's lead to 7-4.

Robinson sparked the offense in the fourth for Savannah State with a triple to left field that scored Marcela Foley. Later, Allisyn Ferrell singled up the middle to score Robinson and Green—tying the game at 7-7.

In the top of the sixth, Wright, Robinson and Green all hit singled to reach. Ferrell went yard for her first grand slam of the season to lift Savannah State to an 11-7 lead. But, Lane answered in the bottom of the frame with four runs on four hits to tie the game at 11 all.

All tied up into the seventh inning, Savannah State was unable to get runners on the bags with three consecutive flyouts. Raelynn Lee singled to open the bottom for Lane and was advanced to scoring position on a sacrifice bunt from Millay Lambert. Kaylee Stinnett then singled to score Lee for the walk-off win.

Softball travels to Albany State March 19 for a three-game SIAC series. They return home on March 26 to open a three-game SIAC series against Fort Valley State.
