No. 21 Lady Tigers Cruise Past Edward Waters

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – In a non-conference road game, the No. 21 Savannah State women's basketball team did what they typically do in games this season—win by double digits.
 
The Lady Tigers downed Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) provisional team Edward Waters 73-59 for their 18th win of the season.
 
Savannah State opened with a 13-7 run against Edward Waters and were up 20-13 by the end of the first quarter. By the half, they pushed out to a 38-27 advantage and kept the gas in the second half, outscoring the Florida Tigers 35 to 32 or the final 14-point win.
 
Savannah State shot 54 percent from the floor, including a 71 percent margin in the fourth quarter. They ended with four players in double figures. Bria Gibbs led with 16 points. Gibbs is nationally ranked No. 22 in field goal percentage and leads the conference in the category.
 
Le'Andrea Gillis and Amari Heard tacked on 12 points each in the win against Edward Waters. Point guard Mia Goolsby went 3-for-5 from the field for 11 points in the win.
 
On average, Savannah State is outscoring opponents by 20.0 points a game. They've won 13 of their 18 games by 10 or more points this season. They put up a total of 1,500 points this year, averaging 78.9 a game and are shooting 45 percent from the field, and 40 percent from beyond the arc.
 
They have the 15th best scoring offense in the nation (NCAA Division II, 297 schools), and best scoring offense in the SIAC. Savannah State also leads the SIAC in assists per game, defensive rebounds per game, field goal percentage, field goal percentage defense, three-point field goal defense, three-point field goal percentage and win-loss percentage.
 
The Lady Tigers return to action on Monday with a key SIAC game against Albany State. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m. in Albany, Georgia.
