Savannah, Ga.—Tonight, Savannah State women's volleyball close out an historic regular season with their final game before heading to the 2022 Cricket Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Volleyball Championship.

Tonight's game was originally scheduled for Sept. 29, but due to Hurricane Ian was rescheduled.

On Tuesday, the Lady Tigers beat Allen to improve to 12-10 overall and 12-6 in SIAC action. The win set two new school records (dating back to 1994): most overall wins in a regular season and most conference wins in a season—besting the last best SSU women's volleyball team, the 2009 Lady Tigers who finished that season 11-19.

Statistically, Savannah State has secured the No. 3 spot in the SIAC East Division. The No. 3 ranking is the best post-season ranking in program history. They will look to spoil Edward Waters attempt at a No. 1 finish this evening.

EWU is 15-2 overall and are currently the No. 1 team in the SIAC East, but Albany State is close behind at 15-3. Edward Waters has two remaining SIAC games this year, including tonight, while Albany State has only one as they battle for the top seed into the championship.

LAST GAME
Yesterday, the Lady Tigers traveled to Columbia, S.C. for their final road game of the season. They beat Allen in straight sets, 25-19, 25-18 and 26-24. Junior Destinee Langston led the Lady Tigers with 17 kills followed by freshman Allena Norton (13). Setter Jessee Grubesic had 30 assists in the win.

ON OFFENSE
The Lady Tigers are led by two returners and a newcomer this season. Junior Destinee Langston tops the stat sheet with 230 kills on the season, averaging 3.07 per set. Freshman Allena Norton has had an incredible debut season, recording 204 kills so far with 2.72 per set. Jasmine Nettles has been a force on the outside, recording 162 kills, averaging 2.45 a set. She leads the team in service aces with 32. But hitters are nothing without a solid setter and newcomer Jessee Grubesic has been key for Savannah State this year. She has 363 assists, averaging 5.26 a set.

ON DEFENSE
Libero Kloe Ludy has been a stalwart for the Lady Tigers this season and leads in digs with 313, averaging 4.17 per set. Nettles is right behind her with 230 digs followed by Langston (204) and Grubesic (128). At the net, Norton and Destiny Gaines have been fierce. Gaines leads with 46.0 blocks followed by Norton (44.0).

LAST MATCHUP VS EWU
Last Thursday, the Lady Tigers traveled to Jacksonville, Fla. for their first match against the new SIAC member. Last year, when EWU was a provisional member of the conference, they showed they were ready to be in the conference picking up big wins all year. They beat SSU twice. In their last match of the 2021 season, EWU won 25-14, 25-21, 25-16. But this year was different. Last Thursday, the Lady Tigers played EWU tough, falling 24-26, 18-25 and 21-25. SSU will look to break a three-game losing streak to the other Tigers tonight.

OPPONENT SCOUTING REPORT
In their first year as a full member of the conference, Edward Waters has torn through their SIAC schedule, racking up 15 conference wins this year. They are coming off a big win against Albany State, which dethroned the Golden Rams from the No. 1 spot in the SIAC East Division.
