SAVANNAH, Ga.—Savannah State women's volleyball returns to home court off a major, mid-week Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) East Division road win on Tuesday.

It's Homecoming week at Savannah State and the Lady Tigers are set to kick-off the weekend's athletics schedule Friday night ahead of Saturday's 3 p.m. football game.

Savannah State will be battling for positioning in the SIAC East Division with Allen this evening. This is Allen's first year of competition in the conference after joining as a provisional member last season.

Currently, Albany State leads the SIAC East with an 11-2 conference record, followed by Edward Waters (8-1), Savannah State (7-4), Clark Atlanta (5-6), Benedict (5-7), Allen (4-5), and Fort Valley State (1-5).

LAST GAME
On Tuesday, the Lady Tigers faced off against tough rival Benedict—who they've lost to the last three times the teams played. But Savannah State swept the first of two matches this season, 3-0. (Full Recap Here) Savannah State and Benedict will meet again on Oct. 14 at Willcox-Wiley Gym.

ON OFFENSE
Midway through the season, Savannah State is led by junior Destinee Langston (143 k; 2.75 k/s; 158.5 p) on offense, followed closely by freshman Allena Norton (132 k; 2.54 k/s; 155.5 p). Sophomore Jasmine Nettles (91 k; 2.78 k/s; 119.5 p) is having an outstanding season as well. Nettles leads in the team in service aces with 24 this season. New setter Jessee Grubesic has been key for the Lady Tigers. She leads the team in assists with 237.

ON DEFENSE
On defense, sophomore Destiny Gaines leads the team in blocks (31.0), with her net-minding-buddy Norton close behind with 28.0 blocks. Libero Kloe Ludy leads in digs with 220, followed by Langston (129) and Nettles (127).

LAST MATCHUP
The Lady Tigers are 2-0 against Allen since Savannah State rejoined the SIAC in 2019. Both of those games were played last year in Allen's provisional season. This year's matchup will be the first to count towards the conference schedule. Savannah State demolished Allan 3-0  (25-10, 25-7, 25-16) on Nov. 5 in  Tiger Arena last year.

OPPONENT SCOUTING REPORT
Allen has greatly improved this season. After finishing the 2021 campaign 5-18, they have a winning season so far with a 9-7 overall record. They picked up SIAC wins against LeMoyne-Owen, Tuskegee, Central State and Clark Atlanta so far this season. They are led by a pair of freshman, Maliyah Spencer (141 k) and Cadence Leaks (97 k) on offense. On defense, junior Kayla Chambliss (128 digs; 7.0 blocks) and Spencer (44 digs; 20.0 blocks) lead the team.
