Lady Tigers Dominate Lane College For 10th Consecutive Win

SAVANNAH, Ga. – In their first game of the new year, the Savannah State women's basketball team dominated Lane College in Tiger Arena, picking up their 10th consecutive win of the season.

Savannah State improved to 10-0 and 5-0 in Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) play. It's the best start for a Lady Tigers team since the 1992-1993 team opened that season 11-0.

The Lady Tigers opened Saturday's game with some lights out shooting. Le'Andrea Gillis snapped off a three-pointer within the first 30 seconds and Mia Goolsby added one a minute later to open a 14-4 run in the first 4 minutes and 43 seconds of action.

With 3:08 to play in the opening quarter, Savannah State pushed out to a 20-10 lead behind two good free-throws from Nya Allen. By the end of the first, the Lady Tigers led 22-15.

Savannah State continued the heavy offensive push in the second quarter, outscoring Lane 16-8 for a 38-23 lead at the half. Lane outscored the Lady Tigers in the third quarter, 16-15, but it wasn't enough to cut into the Lady Tigers double-digit advantage.

The Lady Tigers sealed up a dominating 75-54 win with a strong fourth quarter, shooting 44 percent from the field in the final period. Overall, Savannah State shot 42 percent from the field and 43 percent from deep.

Gillis led Savannah State with a season-high 27 points, just four points shy of her career record. The redshirt-junior went 9-for-15 from the field and 4-for-7 from the beyond the arc. Bria Gibbs and Goolsby each tacked on nine points in the win.

Savannah State faces SIAC provisional team Edward Waters on Monday in Tiger Arena in a non-conference matchup. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m.
