The Tigers will square off against Livingstone College this evening in the teams 10th meeting. They first met in 1936. Savannah State leads the overall series 8-1. The last time the teams met was on Sept. 5, 2009. Savannah State won that game 34-12. Livingstone's only win came in a 1966 game.

The Tigers are coming off a hard open to the 2021 season. Last week, they faced off against the No. 5 team in NCAA Division II Valdosta State. The lopsided 53-7 loss was tough start for the No. 1 team in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) East. Savannah State will look to regroup in this week's non-conference bout before heading into SIAC action next week on Sept. 18.

Livingstone enters today's game off a 10-13 loss to Clark Atlanta—an SIAC team. Savannah State will see Clark Atlanta at home on Oct. 16 for Homecoming.

It is Armed Forces Night in Theodore A. Wright Stadium. There will be a special celebration of the Savannah State Navy ROTC program at halftime, commemorating their 50th anniversary on campus.

Today's game also falls on the 20th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks. A special moment will be observed for the victims prior to the playing of the national anthem.
