Lady Tigers Take Down Georgia College, Improve To 3-0

SAVANNAH, Ga. — Savannah State women's basketball continued to dominate the early schedule on Saturday, beating Georgia College 53-44 in Tiger Arena.

The Lady Tigers moved to 3-0 on the season with the win.

The first quarter was a back and forth tussle to open. But the Lady Tigers opened a 7-2 run in the final three minutes for a bit of an edge. They led 20-16 after the first 10 minutes. The second quarter was filled with miscues from both teams, neither scoring double digits. Savannah State held a close 29-24 lead into the locker room.

Midway through the third quarter, the Lady Tigers opened a 16-2 run for an 18-point advantage (48-30) that all but sealed up the win. Amari Heard capped the huge run with back to fast break points off rebounds.

Savannah State floundered a bit in the final quarter as Georgia College outscored them 14-5, but the late rally wasn't enough to overcome the huge third quarter for the Lady Tigers.

Bria Gibbs led the field in scoring with 12 points for Savannah State. Le'Andrea Gills tacked on 10 and Heard led in rebounds with seven.
Savannah State plays one if its final non-conference games on Saturday, Nov. 27 against Claflin University. Tip-off in Tiger Arena is set for 1 p.m.
