Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | By Desmond Young

Tigers split on the road against SIAC teams

The Savannah State Tigers split a two-game road trip last week, where they faced Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) West Division foes Miles College and Paine College.

In the first game the Tigers took on SIAC West's top-ranked Miles College. The Tigers were led by Marcus Scott who was Savannah State's lone double-digit scorer, putting away 21 points. Despite being without their leading scorer on the season, Junior Adrian Bonds (17.6 p/pg), the Tigers kept the game close all night.

The Miles College Golden Bears had three players who posted double-digit scoring efforts, but it was Avery Brown with 24 points who led the field. The Tigers were no match for the Golden Bears in the end, losing 65-56.

After the loss to Miles College, Savannah State looked to secure another SIAC win at Paine College two days later. The Tigers had four players in double digits with Avery Joyner and Marcus Scott putting away 24 each.

With almost a 60% field goal shooting percentage nothing could get in the way of the Tigers. Paine College did not back down without a fight, however, with five players posting double-digit numbers.

Keon Williams led the scoring effort for Paine with 14, followed by Deshawndric Nelms with 13 for the Lions.

The Savannah State Tigers pulled through with the hard-fought victory 80-76 to move to 8-8 in the conference coming up on their final three games of the regular season before the SIAC Championship Tournament the first week of March.
