JACKSON, Tenn. – Savannah State men's basketball had an opportunity to earn their second win of the season on Saturday, but faltered in the final four minutes of a Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) game against Lane College.
With 4:22 to play,
Adrian Bonds hit a free-throw to tie the game up at 60. But Lane responded with a 13-2 run over the following two minutes, taking an 11-point lead with 1:31 to play.
Zion Williams hit a three-pointer with five seconds to play for the final 78-71 score.
Savannah State falls to 1-8 overall and 1-5 in the SIAC, while Lane improves to 7-7 on the season and 3-4 in conference action. Both teams shot under 40% from the field, but the Dragons managed a 48% clip from beyond the arc, hitting 12-of-25 three-point attempts.
Trey DeLoach and
Marcus Scott led the Tigers with 16 points each. Bonds added 14 and Williams had 12 in the loss.
Andrew Okorodudu led the field on defense with 13 rebounds and two blocks.
The Tigers will look to break a six-game losing streak on Jan. 18 as they travel to Fort Valley, Georgia to take on Fort Valley State in an SIAC game. They follow that match with a trip to Atlanta to face conference foe Clark Atlanta before returning home on Jan. 25 to host Benedict College in Tiger Arena.
