Fort Valley State came out firing on Friday night against the Savannah State Lady Tigers, and held on for a 3-0 victory in Fort Valley, Ga.
SSU came back with a strong second set after Fort Valley etched a 25-19 win in the first set. SSU and Fort Valley traded blows through the first 16 points. After a Fort Valley timeout midway through the second set, Fort Valley's Jaelyn Franklin racked up six consecutive points as SSU struggled on defense, and Fort Valley took a 21-17 lead.
Valeria Aldarondo recorded a kill to cut the score to 21-18, but down the stretch, Fort Valley sealed up a 2-0 match lead with a 25-21 set victory. In the final set, SSU struggled as Fort Valley stacked a 5-point run mid-set and sealed up the match with a 25-14 set win. Â Â
Jeilynn Brown led the Lady Tigers with 9 kills and 9 digs. Aldarondo recorded 19 assists, 4 kills and 9 digs on the night.
Jedaiah Daniels had 7 kills and 9 digs in the Lady Tigers' second game.
SSU falls to 0-2 on the season. They return to action this coming Monday with a home game against Brewton-Parker. Game time is 6 p.m. Â
