SAVANNAH, Ga.- The Savannah State University Athletics Department has released the Tigers 2019 football schedule.

The ten-game schedule features four home games and two road games against Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) opponents.

First-year Head Coach
Shawn Quinn will lead the program that will be returning to Division II and the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) and will be playing a SIAC schedule for the first time since 1998.

The Tigers will start their new Division II era with back-to-back home games against Florida Tech University (Sept. 7) and Virginia University of Lynchburg (Sept. 14) at Theodore A. Wright Stadium.

Savannah State will hit the road for five straight weeks with two trips to Atlanta, Georgia, two trips to South Carolina and a trip to Lorman, Mississippi.

SSU opens their SIAC schedule at Benedict College (Sept. 21) and Morehouse College (Sept. 28) before non-conference games at FCS opponents Charleston Southern University (October 5) and Alcorn State University (Oct. 12). The Tigers travel to Clark Atlanta University on Oct. 19 for a SIAC match-up. Charleston Southern is the lone team that appeared on the 2018 schedule, a 23-3 victory for SSU.

The Tigers will close the season with two of their final three games at home.

SSU will host Albany State University for Homecoming on Oct. 26 followed by a home game with Fort Valley State on Nov. 2. Savannah State will conclude the regular season with a trip to Jacksonville, Florida to play Edward Waters College on Nov. 9.

The game with the Rams of Albany State will be the 62nd meeting between the schools that date back to 1932, while the series with FVSU began in 1934.

The season will renew rivalries with schools that date back as far as 1927 (Morehouse) and will feature two first-time opponents (Florida Tech and Virginia University Lynchburg). It will be the second meeting between SSU and Alcorn State who last played in 1970.
