Tigers Lose To FAMU

SAVANNAH, Ga.- Turner Davis had three hits while Aaron Straker and Yan Mastin added two hist apiece but Savannah State would lose to Florida A&M 7-5 in a game played at Tiger Field.
 
The loss extends the Tigers losing skid to five games as they fall to 7-19-1 overall and 5-8 in conference play.
 
SSU led 2-0 after two innings of play before the Rattlers sent four runners across home plate in the top of the sixth inning.
 
In the first inning, Joey Roberson drew a walk and scored on a single by Justin Washington. Garrett Bogart led off the bottom of the second with a walk and scored on a single by Mastin for a 2-0 advantage.
 
After FAMU took a 4-2 lead in the top of the sixth, Savannah State pulled within one in the bottom half of the inning.
 
Davis led off with a double and scored on a double by Cooper Morgan to make the score 4-3.
 
Florida A&M scored twice in the top of the eighth but a RBI single by Roberson in the bottom of the inning that allowed Jalen Atterbury to score, kept SSU close at 6-4.
 
Both teams scored a run in the ninth inning. Jared Weber scored on a ground-out by Robert Robinson for FAMU while a single by Atterbury allowed Bogart to score a run for the Tigers.
 
The teams made one error each and combined to leave 25 runners on base with Savannah State leaving 14 and the Rattlers stranding 11.
 
Savannah State out-hit FAMU 12 to 11.
 
Luis Torres-Lopez was the losing pitcher for the Tigers. Torres-Lopez pitched six innings and gave up six hits, four runs and three walks while recording two strikeouts. Ian Concevitch (two innings), Enrico Peele (one third) and Tyler Foune (two thirds) all pitched in relief for SSU and combined to strike out three batters while surrendering five hits, three runs and three walks.
 
Robertson had three hits for the Rattlers (16-23, 8-8 MEAC) while driving in one run and scoring once. Kyle Coleman was the winning pitcher while Jeremiah McCollum earned the save. Coleman struck out seven in 5.2 innings while giving up seven hits, three runs and four walks while McCollum came on in the ninth inning and gave up three hits, one run and one walk while striking out two.
