Lady Tigers Lose To Bethune-Cookman, 7-5

SAVANNAH, Ga.- Jocelyn Lozano and Stacie Smith had three hits apiece but Savannah State would fall to Bethune-Cookman 7-5, in a game played at Lady Tiger Field.

The loss gives Savannah State a 4-17 overall record and a 0-3 record in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference as the Wildcats sweep the weekend series against SSU.

The Lady Tigers stranded ten runners on base in the game and left the bases loaded in the fifth inning while only scoring one run.

Sasha Killings blasted a three-run home run for B-CU in the top of the first inning for a 3-0 lead. In the bottom half of the inning, Savannah State's Destiny Beckham led off with a single and stole second. Lozano laid down a bunt and advanced to second on a passed ball. That also allowed Beckham to score. Lozano advanced to third on a ground-out by Smith and a single by Peyton Mitchell sent Lozano home to make the score 3-2.

Brianna Paysinger hit a two-run double for the Wildcats in the second inning to increase their lead to 5-2.

SSU loaded the bases in the fifth as Lozano doubled, Smith singled and Mitchell was hit by a pitch. Lozano scored on a single by Cortni Jones to slice the Savannah State deficit to 5-3.

Bethune-Cookman went ahead 7-3 with runs in the sixth and seventh innings.

In the bottom of the seventh, Savannah State loaded the bases when Smith singled, Mitchell drew a walk and Jones was hit by a pitch. Allye Sneed walked which allowed Smith to score and a single by Kameryn Baker allowed Jones to cross home plate with the final run of the day.

Faith Dickerson was the losing pitcher. Dickerson went all seven innings and gave up ten hits, seven runs and four walks.

Jacki Smith had three hits and scored three times for B-CU. Alexis Bermudez was the winning pitcher. Bermudez pitched six inning and struck out 10 while giving up 10 hits, five runs and two walks.

Bethune-Cookman (12-22, 3-0 MEAC) left nine runners on base in the game.
