STATESBORO, Ga.- In what will be their last season in Division I, the Savannah State softball team opened their 2019 season by participating in the Bash In The Boro. The game were held at Eagle Field on the campus of Georgia Southern.

SSU lost their opening game to Winthrop 7-1.

Winthrop scored a run in the first inning and added five more in the second for a 6-1 advantage.

The Lady Tigers scored their lone run in the top of the fourth when
Jakayla Sullivan hit a home run.
Â
Winthrop added another run in the bottom of the inning for the final run of the game.
Â
Savannah State had runners in scoring position in the second, third and sixth innings but could not get anyone across home plate.

For the game, SSU left six runners on base while the Eagles stranded eight.

Stacie Smith had a triple for SSU while
Peyton Mitchell added a double and a single.
Faith Dickerson was the losing pitcher. Dickerson gave up nine hits, seven runs, five walks and struck out one.

Tori Walker and Keleigh Romine both had home runs for Winthrop while Kiley Majette was the winning pitcher. Majette gave up five hits, one run, two walks and struck out eight.
