Stacie Smith had three hits and scored twice to lead Savannah State in a 9-6 loss to Alabama A&M, in a game played at Lady Tiger Field.
The non-conference loss drops SSU to 0-8 on the season.
Faith Dickerson was tagged with the loss. Dickerson pitched seven innings and surrendered seven hits, nine runs and four walks while striking out one batter.
Tamia Lee-Barbadillo led off the top of the first inning with a solo home run to give the Bulldogs a 1-0 lead.
Lee-Barbadillo hit a three-run home run in the second to tie the game at 4-4 and the Bulldogs took the lead in the third inning, scoring five runs off two hits for a 9-4 advantage.
Peyton Mitchell hit a solo home run for Savannah State in the bottom of the fifth. In the sixth, Smith doubled and advanced to third on a wild pitch. A ground-out by Stephanie Vargas allowed Smith to cross home plate for the final run of the day.
Byers had two hits, two RBI and scored a run for SSU.
As a team, the Lady Tigers had ten hits, made four errors and left seven runners on base.
Lee-Barbadillo led Alabama A&M (3-4) with two hits, two runs and four RBI.
Danielle Hansell was the winning pitcher for A&M, Hansell pitched seven inn innings, gave up six hits, two runs and one walk while recording two strikeouts.
A&M ended the day with one error and left six runners on base.
