SAVANNAH, Ga.- Alabama A&M swept a double-header from the Savannah State softball team by scores of 10-6 and 1-0 at Lady Tigers Field.
In the first game, SSU jumped out to a 3-0 advantage, scoring twice in the first inning and once in the bottom of the third.
Stacie Smith reached base on an error by the pitcher in the first inning , stole second and advanced to third on an error by the catcher while
Peyton Mitchell drew a walk and stole second.
Cortni Jones reached base on an error by the right fielder which allowed Smith and Mitchell to score. In the third inning, Mitchell and
Jakayla Sullivan drew walks and Jones reached base on a fielder's choice to load the bases. A double by
Shayna Byers allowed Sullivan to score for a 3-0 lead.
A&M scored a run in the top of the fourth but Savannah State answered with two of their own in the bottom half of the inning when
Stephanie Vargas walked and scored on an error and Mitchell hit a solo home run for a 5-1 cushion.
The Bulldogs scored twice in the top of the sixth to trim their deficit to 5-3 but SSU responded with Mitchell hitting a RBI single that scored Smith to put the Lady Tigers ahead 6-3.
The A&M bats woke up in the seventh as they scored three runs to tie the game at 6-6. The Bulldogs added four more runs in the eighth to earn the victory.
In the game, SSU had six hits, made two errors and left 11 runners on base.
Mitchell had two hits, drove in two runs and scored twice while Smith scored twice and Byers had two hits.
Faith Dickerson was the losing pitcher. Dickerson pitched all eight innings and gave up 12 hits, 10 runs and nine walks while striking out one.
Danielle Hansell led A&M with two hits, two runs and two RBI while Lauren Hayden was the winning pitcher, striking out eight batters.
The Bulldogs made four errors in the game and stranded 12 runners on base.

In the second game, the only score came in the top of the seventh when Jamia Kirk singled and scored on a single by Tamia Lee-Barbadillo.
Savannah State was held to four hits and made one error.
Byers had two singles for SSU (0-7).
Dickerson was tagged with the loss, giving up five hits, one run and two walks while getting one strikeout.
Hansell had two hits for A&M (3-3). Hansell was also the winning pitcher, recording four strikeouts .
