Lady Tigers earn 3-1 SIAC victory over Clark Atlanta on the road

ATLANTA, Ga. – Following two Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SAIC) home wins, the Savannah State volleyball team continued their winning streak on the road Tuesday with a 3-1 victory over fellow SIAC East Division member Clark Atlanta.

Behind their sixth conference win this season, the Lady Tigers shift into second place in the SIAC East, trailing 9-2 Albany State. Savannah State has four more conference matches on the schedule for this year. They will get a chance to see Albany State again—after falling 1-3 in their first match this season in Savannah—on Nov. 15 in Albany.

SSU rebounded from a 19-25 loss in the opening set against the Lady Panthers with a 25-17 win in the second set, shifting the momentum in their favor. The Lady Tigers opened with a 7-2 run behind some killer serving from Jeilynn Brown and Jedaiah Daniels.

Out of a timeout, Clark Atlanta responded with a couple kills from Kia Thomas to trim SSU's lead, but the Lady Tigers stayed out front through the rest of the set. It was all SSU in the final two sets, as the Lady Tigers notched back-to-back 25-11 set wins for the 3-1 match victory.

Imani Williamson led the entire field on offense with 15 kills on 27 total attacks (.407 hitting percentage). Brown led SSU on defense with 10 digs, while Daniels recorded 5 blocks. Setter Valeria Aldarondo, led the field with 33 assists.

Aldarondo and Brown each had a season-high 5 service aces as well. The Lady Tigers continued their strong defensive presence at the net, out blocking Clark-Atlanta 9-4 in the win.

SSU returns to action on Oct. 22 with a SIAC road game against Benedict College. The Lady Tigers edged by Benedict, 3-2, in their last meeting on Oct. 9. SSU returns home on Oct. 25 for a non-conference match against Middle Georgia State, and follow that with two non-conference road matches against Brewton-Parker (Oct. 28) and Middle Georgia State (Oct. 31).
