BALTIMORE, Md.- Savannah State snapped a eight game losing streak with a 88-87 victory over Morgan State, in a game played at Hill Field House.
The Tigers, who were down by as many as 17 points in the first half, trailed 52-40 at intermission.
SSU jumped put to a 10-2 advantage but the Bears scored 15 straight points during a 23-4 run to go ahead 25-14.Â
In the second period, SSU shot 53.8 percent from the field as they rallied to send the game into an extra period tied at 80-80.
SSU trailed 64-52 with 14:08 remaining but used a 20-8 run to tie the game at 72 with 5:35 left.
Tied at 76 apiece with just under three minutes left,
Zach Sellers buried a 3-pointer to give the Tigers a 79-76 advantage.
Savannah State led 80-78Â but a pair of free throws by MSU's Sherwyn Devonish with 31 seconds left tied the game to force overtime.
In the extra period the Tigers out-scored Morgan State 8-7 with
Jaquan Dotson getting a dunk and a layup and
Romani Hansen adding two layups.
For the second straight game
Tyrell Harper had a double-double for Savannah State, getting 13 rebounds and 11 points. Harper also had seven assists.
Hansen and Dotson scored 20 points each for the Tigers while Sellers and Zaquavian Smith contributed 13 points apiece.
Savannah State shot 50 percent from the field, 28.1 percent from beyond the arc and made 68.4 percent of their free throws.
Kyson Rawls led Morgan State with 20 points.
The Bears, who won the rebounding battle 43 to 40, shot 42.5 percent from the floor, made 43.5 percent of their 3-point shots and 65.2 percent of their free throw attempts.
