Lady Tigers Snap Losing Streak

BALTIMORE, Md.- The Savannah State women's basketball team snapped their seven game losing streak as they opened their Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference schedule with a 76-70 win over Coppin State, in a game played at PEC Arena.

It was SSU's first win since a victory over Carver College on November 12.

In the win over Coppin State, the Lady Tigers had five players to score in double figures.

Ta'Quasia Lampkin came off the bench to score 15 points, Myasia Jones scored 14,Jacquece Alston had 13, Alexus Bryant scored 12 and Jalea Gray contributed 10 points. Lampkin also had five steals and Bryant had nine rebounds and four blocks.

The contest was a homecoming of sorts for sophomore Heniaya Moton, who is from Washington, D.C. Moton finished the game with three points, three steals and a game-high six assists.

Savannah State (3-7, 1-0 MEAC) led 18-16 after the first quarter and 36-35 at halftime.

The Lady Tigers got some separation in the third quarter by outscoring Coppin State 23-17 as they took a 59-42 advantage into the final quarter.

Coppin State edged SSU 18-17 in the fourth quarter.

SSU shot 50 percent from the field in the fourth quarter and 39.7 percent for the game. The Lady Tigers shot 26.1 percent from beyond the arc and 57.1 percent from the free throw line.

Savannah State had 18 steals as they forced Coppin State to make 28 turnovers.

The Eagles were led by Chance Graham who had 15 points and 25 rebounds.

As a team CSU out rebounded Savannah State 57 to 35.

Coppin State (0-13, 0-1 MEAC) shot 35.7 from the floor, 31.8 percent from three-point land and 69.7 percent from the free throw line.
