Tigers Fall in Final Home Contest

SAVANNAH, Ga.- In their last home game of the season at Tiger Field, Savannah State fell to North Carolina Central 10-3.
 
It was the final home game for seniors Shawn Sausville, Bryce Luken, Charles Wilson, Kyle Gerdts, Larry Silmon, Trevor McKenna, Paul Sheffield, Alex Pierce, Marcus Mitchell and Spencer Gillis.

The loss extended SSU's losing skid to 15 games.
 
NCCU scored a run in the first inning to take a 1-0 lead. The Eagles added another run in the top of the third but Savannah State answered back in the bottom of the inning when Turner Davis doubled and advanced to third on a single by Mason Calloway. Davis scored on a sacrifice fly by Juan Lugo. a single by Freddie Landers pushed Calloway across home plate to tie the score at 2-2
 
The Eagles erupted for five runs off of three hits in the fifth inning and scored three runs off four hits in the sixth to expand their lead to 10-2.
 
North Carolina Central left the bases loaded in the top of the seventh but was unable to score. The Tigers (5-29, 2-16 MEAC) also left the bases full in the bottom of the inning but was able to manage one run across home plate. Jalen Atterbury doubled while Garrett Bogart and Davis drew walks to load the bases. Calloway fouled out but it allowed Atterbury to score on a sacrifice fly.
 
Atterbury and Landers both had two hits for Savannah State. Luis Torres-Lopez was the losing pitcher for the Tigers. Torres-Lopez lasted four innings on the mound before being relieved by Caleb Hill, Tyler Robinson and Sheffield. Torres-Lopez struck out two while giving up seven hits, five runs and one walk.
 
SSU ended the game with eight hits while making two errors and leaving nine men on base.
 
Corey Joyce scored three runs for NCCU while Jonathan Figueroa was the winning pitcher. Figueroa, who was one of five pitchers used by the Eagles, went three innings and struck out two while surrendering four hits.

North Carolina Central (26-21, 10-11 MEAC) stranded 11 runners on base but had 14 hits in the game.
