CHARLESTON, S.C. – After having the game postponed a day later due to rain, the Savannah State University softball team (3-9) fell to Charleston Southern University (14-8) 8-0 in five innings Wednesday at CSU Softball Field.
 
Senior right fielder Shelby Eccles and junior third baseman Cortni Jones each went 1-for-2.  On the mound, junior Faith Dickerson (0-4) picked up the loss pitching 2.1 innings giving up eight runs, six earned runs, on seven hits, while sophomore pitcher Hannah Deckle pitched the final 1.2 innings giving up a hit with two strikeouts.
 
Charleston Southern scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning to take a 3-0 lead after an RBI single, and a two-run double down the left field line.
 
The Buccaneers added five runs in the second inning after an RBI single, a two-round double down the left field line, and an error to allow two Bucs to score.
 
Charleston Southern was led by Mallory Kasinger with two RBIs and two runs scored and Laina Holmgren with two RBIs, while Arizona Pilgrim (5-3) picked up the win pitching an inning giving up a hit, while four other Buccaneers pitched in the game, all an inning each.
 
The Lady Tigers return home to face Radford University Friday at 2 p.m. at Lady Tiger Softball Field.
