SAVANNAH, Ga. – The Savannah State University softball team (4-9) fell to Radford University (14-9) 3-1 Friday at Lady Tiger Softball Field.
 
Senior center fielder Brianna Harris went 3-for-4 with a run scored, while senior pitcher Amanda Hallman went 1-for-2 with two RBIs and junior left fielder Shayna Byers went 2-for-3.  On the mound, Hallman (3-5) pitched a complete game giving up one run on four hits with five strikeouts.
 
Savannah State broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the fifth inning by scoring three runs in the inning for a 3-0 lead.  Harris started the inning with a triple and after a fielder's choice where the third baseman didn't throw the ball to put the runners on the corners.  Senior right fielder Shelby Eccles singles home Harris for a 1-0 lead. 
 
After a fly out and a pop up for the first two outs of the inning, Hallman doubled home junior designated player Peyton Mitchell and Eccles for a 3-0 lead.  A groundout ended the inning.
 
Radford scored its only run in the top of the sixth inning to cut the final deficit to two runs after an RBI single.
 
The Highlanders were led by Marissa Gagliano colleting two of the four hits and scored the only run, while Talia Douglas recorded the only RBI.  On the mound, Jessie Marvin (2-1) picked up the loss in a complete game giving up three runs on eight hits.
 
The Lady Tigers start the HBCU Classic with two games Saturday with Alabama State University at 9 a.m. and Alabama A&M University at 4:30 p.m. and two games Sunday with University of Maryland Eastern Shore at 8 a.m. and Southern University at 10:30 a.m.
