SAVANNAH, Ga. – The Savannah State University women's tennis team (0-1) fell to College of Charleston (3-1) Tuesday at the Tiger Tennis Courts for SSU's season and home opener. 
 
After College of Charleston won at the No. 2 doubles position as Turner Yates and Laura Arcinegas defeated SSU's double duo of freshman Sofia Shut'ko and senior Rachida El Kateb 6-1, the Lady Tigers tied the doubles point after freshmen Ekaterina Vorobeva and Shakendra Alston defeated CofC's doubles team of Sarah Jane Jones and Sarah Zschunke 6-4. 
 
The doubles point came down to the No. 1 position.  The sisters of Sansriti Ranjan and Muskaan Ranjan fell to Anastasia Polaska and Christi Woodson 7-5 to give the Cougars the 1-0 match lead.
 
CofC took a 2-0 lead after Yates defeated Muskaan Ranjan 6-0, 6-2 at the No. 4 singles position and extended the lead to 3-0 after Helena Nyikos defeated Shut'ko 6-1, 6-1 at the No. 1 singles position. 
 
The Cougars clinched the match after Arciniegas defeated El Kateb 6-0, 6-2 at the No. 5 singles position and took a 5-0 lead after Alston fell to Yates 7-5, 6-1 at the No. 5 singles position.
 
College of Charleston won the final two singles matches after Palaska defeated Sansriti Ranjan 6-0, 6-2 at the No. 3 position and Woodson defeated Vorobeva 6-3, 6-3 at the No. 2 singles position.
 
The Lady Tigers Wofford College Saturday at 2 p.m. at Tiger Tennis Courts.
