SAVANNAH, Ga. – Freshman center nearly recorded her second career double-double with 12 rebounds and nine points and added three blocks, while shooting 50.0 (3-for-6) percent from the floor as the Savannah State University women's basketball team (4-19, 1-10 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) fell to North Carolina A&T State University (15-8, 10-1 MEAC) 69-44 to close a four-game homestand.
Junior forward
Kaylee Allen led the team with a game-high 14 points and added four steals, two assists and two rebounds, while junior guard
Jacqueline Anderson added seven points and three rebounds and freshman guard
Jazmine Bartlett added five points and three rebounds.
The Aggies scored the first eight points of the game to take an 8-0 lead with 7:57 remaining in the first quarter, but the Lady Tigers scored five of the next seven points to cut the lead to five points, 10-5, with 3:23 left. NCAT scored nine of the next 13 points of the quarter to take a first-quarter lead of 10 points, 19-9.
An Aggie layup increase the lead to 12 points, 21-9, with 9:23 remaining in the second quarter, but the Lady Tigers scored 19 of the next 29 points to cut the lead to three points, 31-28, with 1:02 left. NCAT scored the final six points for a nine-point, 37-28, halftime lead.
NCAT scored nine of the first 14 points of the third quarter to increase the lead to 13 points, 46-33, with 6:27 remaining in the quarter, but Savannah State scored the next four points to cut the lead to nine points, 46-37, with 3:34 left. The Aggies scored six of the final seven points for a third-quarter lead of 14 points, 52-38.
North Carolina A&T scored three of the first four points of the fourth quarter to increase the lead to 15 points, 55-39, with 8:24 remaining in the quarter, but the Lady Tigers scored the next three points to cut the lead to 13 points, 55-42, with 6:27 left. NCAT scored 13 of the final 15 points for the 25-point win.
The Aggies were led by C'Coriea Foy with 13 points, six rebounds and seven assists, Kala Green added 12 points, nine rebounds and Charnise Tyler added 11 points.
The Lady Tigers begin a three-game roadstand with Norfolk State University Saturday at 4 p.m. in Norfolk, Va.
