Fenner Leads Tigers Over FAMU

TALLAHASSEE, Fla.- Savannah State took over first place in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference standings with a 107-100 victory over Florida A&M, in a game played at the Lawson Center before 2,479 fans.

The win gives the Tigers a 7-1 conference record and 10-13 overall.

SSU has now won six games in a row and seven of their last eight. Savannah State also scored at least 100 points for the fourth consecutive outing which matches the 1969-70 team that also scored at least 100 points in four straight games.

Alante Fenner scored 27 points to match his career-high while Zach Sellers scored a career-high 21 points to lead SSU on the scoreboard. Javares Jenkins added 18 points and 10 rebounds while Isaiah Felder chipped in 11 points.

FAMU led 63-62 with 10:41 remaining in the second half before SSU strung together a 26-9 run to take a 88-72 lead with 6:50 remaining.

A layup by Dexter McClanahan at the 5:27 mark gave the Tigers their largest lead of the night at 95-77.

Ahead 98-83 with four minutes left, Jenkins drained a jumped to put SSU in triple digits for the sixth time this season.

The Rattlers trailed 105-88 with 2:39 remaining and finished the game with a 12-2 run but could not get any closer.

Savannah State led by as many as 14 in the first half and took a 44-36 cushion into intermission.

FAMU started the second half with a 15-5 run and went ahead 51-49 with 14:21 left in the contest.

The contest remained close until the Tigers began to pull away midway in the second period.

SSU shot 55.9 percent from the floor, 41.2 percent from beyond the arc and made 81 percent of their free throws. The Tigers edged FAMU on the boards, 38 to 37.

Florida A&M (4-20, 3-5 MEAC) was led by Desmond Williams who had a game-high 31 points.

The Rattlers shot 50.7 percent from the floor, made 20 percent of their 3-point shots and 67.7 percent of their free throws.
