SAVANNAH, Ga.- Noria Ceballos Plaza had 12 kills and 14 digs while Salma Gonzalez added 34 assists and 13 digs but Savannah State would fall to Bethune-Cookman 3-1 at Tiger Arena.
The Wildcats won the match by scores of 25-21, 24-26, 25-21, 25-16.
Karissa Tatum had 10 kills and six digs for SSU (3-21, 2-8 MEAC) while Liz Ortiz Munoz had 13 digs.
Tyran Chenault added five blocks.
The first set had 11 ties and was last tied at 18-18. B-CU pulled away 22-20 and Savannah State could not catch up, although Gonzalez had 11 assists.
SSU was down 24-22 in the second set but three straight points by Ceballos Plaza down the stretch gave SSU the victory to tie the sets at 1-1.
In the third set, Bethune led 16-15 but added four straight points and went on to win by four.
The fourth set had the teams tied at 10-10 but Savannah State ran out of gas as the Wildcats finished the set with a 15-6 run.
Bethune-Cookman (15-16, 7-3 MEAC) was paced by Jordan Jefferson (22 kills), JNai Higgins (38 assists), Skyla Whitaker (14 digs) and Shayla Eugene (14 digs).
