ATHENS, Ga.- 
Jahlin Smith scored a career-high 20 points in Savannah State's 110-76 loss to Georgia in a game played at Stegaman Coliseum.
 
Smith finished the game shooting 7 of 14 from the field and making a game-high five 3-pointers. He also had six rebounds and two steals.
 
Zaquavian Smith added 17 points and five rebounds, 
Zach Sellers had 14 points, six rebounds and six assists while 
Jaquan Dotson chipped in 11 points and seven rebounds for the Tigers (0-2).
 
The crowd of 9,018 saw the Bulldogs build a 28 point lead late in the first half but SSU started the second period with a 20-4 run to trim their deficit to 63-54 with 14:23 left.
 
UGA answered with a 3-pointer from William Jackson and a layup and free throw by Tye Fagen and for a 15 point lead.
 
A 3-pointer by Sellers pulled SSU within 71-61 with 12:31 left but the Tigers never got any closer the remainder of the contest.
 
The Bulldogs used a 11-0 run to expand their lead to 86-54 with eight minutes remaining and scored ten straight points for a 96-66 cushion with 4:39 left.
 
A dunk by Christian Harrison gave UGA their largest lead of the contest at 110-73 with 3seconds left in the game.
 
Nicolas Claxton had 15 points and 13 rebounds for the Bulldogs (1-0). Teshaun Hightower had a team-high 18 points.
 
UGA opened the game by scoring the first 14 points.
 
Savannah State did not get on the board until 
Jahlin Smith's 3-pointer at the 15:49 mark.
 
The Tigers cut UGA's lead to 16-11 before the Bulldogs mounted a 16-2 run to make the score 32-13 with 10:50 left.
 
Ahead by 20, the Bulldogs strung together a 11-3 run to go ahead 59-31.
 
UGA led 59-34 at the half.

* When Savannah State originally opened, it was known as Georgia State Industrial College for Colored Youth. A preliminary session of the school was held in the Baxter Street School Building in Athens.
 
* UGA won the rebounding battle 62 to 41.
 
* SSU finished the game with only three free throw attempts while UGA had 32.
 
* The Bulldogs shot 57.1 percent from the field in the game.
 
* SSU's pressuring defense forced UGA to make 23 turnovers.
