Tigers End Season With Loss

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla.- Savannah State jumped out to a 5-1 lead but could not hold on as Bethune-Cookman defeated the Tigers 10-5 in a game played at Jackie Robinson Park.

It was the last game of the regular season for both teams.

SSU ends their campaign on a 10-game losing streak.

The Tigers scored twice in the first inning as Kyle Gerdts hit a RBI double and Jorge Lopez hit a RBI single.

Savannah State (12-39, 3-21 MEAC) entered the top of the second with a 2-1 edge but a two-run home run by Khayld Cox increased SSU's lead to 4-1. A ground-out by Bryce Luken allowed Gerdts to cross home plate to give the Tigers a 6-1 advantage.

Bethune-Cookman did most of their damage at the plate in the bottom of the third, scoring eight runs.

Danny Rodriguez hit a glam slam while Kyle Corbin and Josten Heron both hit two-run homers for a 9-5 lead.

Corbin hit a solo home run in the fourth for the final run of the game.

Lopez went 3-for-3 at the plate for Savannah State while Cox drove in two runs and scored twice.

Austin Robinson was the losing pitcher. Robinson lasted 2.1 innings, giving up eight hits, nine runs and three walks while striking out three.

For the game, SSU had seven hits and made one error.

Rodriguez had four RBI for B-CU while Corbin had two home runs, scored twice and drove in three runs.

Alexis Herrera came in the game as a reliever and picked up the win. Herrera pitched 3.2 scoreless innings and gave up three hits.

The Wildcats (30-23, 15-8 MEAC) had 10 hits and made three errors in the game.
