NORFOLK, Va. – The Savannah State University women's basketball team (12-18) recorded three blocks to set the school record as the No. 8 seed Lady Tigers defeated the No. 9 seed Morgan State University (9-21) 59-51 from the beginning to the end to advance to the quarterfinals of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference. 
 
The Lady Tigers have recorded 163 blocks this season beating the previous record of 160 set in 2011-12.  The 59 points gives Savannah State 1,585 points this season to enter the top-five, while the 18 made field goals give SSU 570 made field goals to move into sixth place.
 
With the win, the Lady Tigers advance to face the top seed Bethune-Cookman University (19-9) Wednesday at noon.
 
As a team, the Lady Tigers recorded a season-high 56.3 (18-for-32) percent from the floor and recorded a season-high 54.5 (6-for-11) percent from the 3-point line. 
 
Graduate student guard Lauren "Gaby" Moss led the team with 15 points, shooting 5-for-8 (62.5 percent) from the floor, including 2-for-3 (66.7 percent) from the 3-point line with three assists, while senior guard Kenyata Hendrix added 12 points, four rebounds and two steals.
 
Senior guard Rhianna Warren added 10 points, shooting 4-for-5 (80.0 percent) from the floor, including shooting 2-for-3 (66.7 percent) from the 3-point line, while senior guard Taylor-Ashley Shaw added eight points and seven rebounds and senior center Tiyonda Davis added eight points and five rebounds.
 
Savannah State scored nine of the first 11 points to take a seven-point lead, 9-2, with 7:07 remaining in the first quarter, but Morgan State the next six points to cut the lead to a point, 9-8, with 4:45 left.  The Lady Tigers scored the next four points to increase their lead to five points, 13-8, with 2:33 remaining, but the Bears scored four of the next six points to cut the lead to three points, 15-12, with 1:37 left.  The Lady Tigers scored five of the final seven points to increase their lead to six points, 20-14, after the first quarter.
 
Savannah State scored three of the first four points of the second quarter to take an eight-point lead, 23-15, with 7:30 remaining in the quarter, but Morgan State scored the next three points to cut the lead to five points, 23-18, with 6:05 left.  Savannah State scored seven of the next eight points to increase its lead to 11 points, 30-19, with 2:41 remaining in the first half, but a Bear jumper cut the lead to nine points, 32-23, at the half.
 
The Lady Tigers scored 12 of the first 17 points of the third quarter to increase their lead to a game-high 18 points, 44-28, with 4:20 remaining in the game, but Morgan State scored five of the final nine points to cut the lead to 15 points, 48-33, after the third quarter.
 
Morgan State scored the first six points of the fourth quarter to cut the lead to nine points, 48-39, with 6:37 remaining in the quarter, but the Lady Tigers scored the next four points to increase their lead to 13 points, 52-39, with 5:42 left.  The Bears scored 10 of the next 14 points to cut the lead to seven points, 56-49, with 1:32 remaining, but the Lady Tigers scored three of the final five points for the eight point win.
 
The Bears were led by Braennan Farrar with 12 points and added five rebounds and three assists, while Chelsea Mitchell added nine points and three rebounds and Tykyrah Williams added nine points and four rebounds.
