Davis Homers In Loss To Charleston Southern

CHARLESTON, S.C.- Turner Davis hit a three-run home run in the eighth inning but Savannah State would come up short  a 7-5 setback to Charleston Southern, in a non-conference contest played at the CSU Ballpark.

The Tigers, who saw their losing streak extended to nine games, out-hit CSU eight to six but also committed three errors and left eight men on base.

Charleston Southern scored four runs in the first inning to take the early lead but SSU (9-17) cut their deficit in half with a pair of runs in the third.

In the third inning, Daryl Harper doubled and scored on a single by Kyle Gerdts. A single by Bryce Luken allowed Gerdts to cross home plate to make the score 4-2.

The Buccaneers added a run in the fifth and sixth innings to push their lead to 6-2.

SSU's Marcus Mitchell was hit by a pitch to lead off the top of the eighth, followed by Jalen Atterbury, who was also hit by a pitch. Jorge Lopez grounded out and Mason Calloway fouled out to put Savannah State in a hole with two outs but Davis came to the rescue by blasting his second home run of the season over the left field fence to slice the Tigers deficit to 6-5.

Charleston Southern scored a run in the bottom half of the inning and SSU could only muster one hit in the ninth to end the game.
