SAVANNAH, Ga.- Khayld Cox's sacrifice fly in the bottom of the 10th inning lifted Savannah State to a 6-5 victory over Mount St. Mary's, in a game played at Tiger Field.
SSU led 3-2 after four innings of play but the Mountaineers scored a unearned run in the seventh to tie the game.
Both teams went hit less in the eighth and ninth innings.
Tyler Post's two-run double in the tenth gave Mount St. Mary's a 5-3 advantage.
In the bottom half of the inning,
Bryce Luken was hit by a pitch and scored on a double by
Turner Davis.
Bernard Barnes entered the game to pinch run for Davis and Barnes tied the game on a double by
Jalen Atterbury. After Larry Silmon was intentionally walked, Cox flied out to left field but it was deep enough to score
Joshua Pittell for the game winner. Pittell was pinch running for
Jorge Lopez, who hit a single.
Both teams scored runs in the first inning.
Dalton Clouser hit a RBI triple for the Mountaineers for the early lead but SSU (8-8) tied the game when Kyle Gerdt doubled and scored on a sacrifice fly by Davis.
Mount St. Mary's went ahead 2-1 in the third but the Tigers responded with a pair of runs in the fourth as
Mason Calloway drew a walk with the bases loaded to bring in a run followed by
Jacob Lightle's sacrifice ground out that also allowed a SSU runner to cross home plate to give the home team a 3-2 lead.
Austin Robinson struck out six batters in six innings for the Tigers but it was reliever Paul Sheffield who got the win. Sheffield pitched two-thirds of an inning and only gave up one hit.
Davis, who was one of four Savannah State players to get two hits, drove in two runs.
Noah Smith suffered the loss for Mount St. Mary's, giving up three hits and three runs in two-thirds of an inning.
Post drove in two runs for the Mountaineers (0-10) while Jared Urban scored twice.
