SSU Falls to Hampton at Home

Box Score SAVANNAH, Ga.- Troyce Manassa scored a game-high 27 points but it would not be enough as Savannah State saw their six game winning streak come to an end after a 92-89 loss to Hampton.

Manassa, who had five rebounds, three assists and two steals, scored 25 of his points in the second half. The senior from Brooklyn, New York also shot 11 for 19 from the field and made four 3-pointers.

The Tiger Arena crowd of 2,328 saw the Tigers battle back from a 14 point deficit to get within one.

Down 81-69 with 5:29 left, SSU used a 15-4 run to get within 85-84, after a 3-pointer by Manassa.

Savannah State (10-13, 7-3 MEAC) found themselves trailing by four with six seconds remaining but a 3-pointer by Joshua Floyd cut the Tigers deficit 90-89.

After a foul by Casey Wells, Hampton's Lawrence Cooks made two free throws with one second left  to seal the win.

Hampton earned the win, despite going the final 6:11 without a field goal.

The Pirates jumped out to a 15-4 lead in the first period but SSU rallied with a 12-5 spurt tort to close their gap to 20-18 at the 10:53 mark.

With the contest tied at 25, Hampton used a 14-1 run to grab a 39-26 lead with just over two minutes left in the half.

SSU got within eight but trailed 41-31 at the break.

Hampton started the second half with layup from Jernaine Marrow and Kalin Fisher to grab their largest lead of the evening at 14 points.

The Pirates held a double digit margin for much of the second half. Savannah State started to make their late push with five and a half minutes left.

Dexter McClanahan added 17 points and a game-high nine rebounds for the Tigers while Austin Dasent came off the bench to chip in 14 points and eight rebounds.

SSU shot 26.3 percent from he field in the first half but improved to 52.6 percent in the second frame.

Marrow had 22 points for Hampton (9-13, 6-3).

The Pirates shot 46.8 percent from the field.

Both squads finished with 43 rebounds.
