SAVANNAH, Ga.- Savannah State split a double header with Alabama A&M at Tiger Field, losing the opener 4-3 but bouncing back back to win the nightcap 10-0.
In the first game, SSU led 3-2 but the Bulldogs scored twice in the eighth inning to get the win.
The Tigers scored twice in the first inning as
Jorge Lopez hit a RBI single and Larry Silmon's walk with the bases loaded allowed Lopez to score.
Cornelious Woods hit a RBI double for Alabama A&M in the second and Nike Hunter led off the third with a triple and scored on a wild pitch to tie the game at 2-2.
SSU went ahead 3-2 in the sixth. With two outs, Silmon doubled to left field and crossed home play on a single by Khayld Cox.
The Bulldogs scored twice in the eighth thanks to three Savannah State errors to get the win.
SSU had seven hits in the game but made six errors while A&M had six hits and made two errors.
The Bulldogs (3-5) left 11 men on base while Savannah State left seven.
Charles Wilson was the losing pitcher. Wilson pitched three innings and gave up two hits, two runs and one walk while striking out two.
Woods went 3 for 4 at the plate for A&M. Blaine Milam was the winning pitcher. Milam lasted six innings and struck out three while giving up seven hits and three runs.
In the second game, the Tigers scored three times in the fourth and five times in the fifth to cruise to the shutout victory.
Silmon had a RBI single in the second inning and
Bryce Luken had a RBI single in the bottom of the third for a 2-0 lead.
In the fourth inning,
Hector Benitez hit a two run triple and
Kyle Gerdts' sacrifice bunt allowed Benitez to score for a 5-0 lead.
Silmon had a RBI single in the fifth, Luken scored on a wild pitch, Benitez hit a two run single and
Turner Davis hit a RBI single for the final runs of the game.
The Tigers (5-2) ended the game with 11 hits and no errors but stranded eight men on base.
Benitez drove in four runs while Silmon drove in two runs. Lopez and
Jacob Lightle each scored twice.
Alex Wright was the winning pitcher. Wright threw a two-hitter and struck out eight.
Fernando Diaz was the losing pitcher. Diaz pitched five innings and gave up 11 hits, 10 runs, four walks and had three strikeouts.
