BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Savannah State University softball team (0-9) dropped both of the two games on Day One of the "Strike-Out Cancer" Tournament on at FAU Stadium with losses to St. John's University (2-3) 13-0 in five innings and to Syracuse University (5-2) 7-1.
Sophomore third baseman
Cortni Jones batted .667 (2-for-3), while senior right fielder
Alexis Singleton batted .600 (3-for-5).

Brianna Harris, Singleton and junior designated player
Elizabeth Humes each recorded a hit, while sophomore pitcher
Faith Dickerson (0-4) picked up the loss pitching 3.2 innings.
St. John's scored in the top of the second inning after an RBI single to take a 1-0 lead and scored four runs in the top of the third inning after an RBI double, an RBI error, an RBI single and a wild pitch to take a 5-0 lead.
St. John's scored the final eight runs in the fourth inning after a sacrifice fly, a three-run homerun and a grand slam.
The Red Storm was led by Gretchen Bowie going 3-for-3 with three runs scored and four RBIs, while Brittany Garcia went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and Christina Melendez went 2-for-3 with three runs scored and four RBIs. Grace Kramer (1-2) went for the complete game giving up four runs.
Syracuse 7, Savannah State 1
Jones and Singleton went 2-for-3 at the place, while Jenkins recorded the only RBI and junior center fielder
Shelby Eccles scored the only run.
Amanda McDowell (0-4) took the loss pitching a complete game with five strikeouts.
Syracuse scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning after a two-run single up the middle to take a 2-0 lead and increased its lead to 4-0 after scoring two runs in the second after a single that scored two runs.
The Orange scored a run in the third inning to take a 5-0 lead after an RBI groundout and scored a run in the fourth inning after an RBI triple to take a 6-0 lead.
'Cuse scored a run in the fifth inning after an RBI single to take a 7-0 lead, but the Lady Tigers got on the board after Jenkins reached on a fielder's choice to score Eccles.
The Orange was led by Bryce Holmgren going 3-for-3 with a run scored and three RBIs, while Sammy Fernandez went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI. AnnaMarie Gatti pitched a complete game giving up one unearned run on six hits.
The Lady Tigers continue the tournament with the University of Tulsa Saturday at 11:15 a.m.
