Softball Falls to Host Stetson in Tournament Finale Sunday

DELAND, Fla. – The Savannah State University softball team (0-7) fell to host Stetson University (4-1) 8-0 in five innings in the Stetson Lead Off Classic Finale at Patricia Wilson Field Sunday.
 
Sophomore shortstop Brianna Harris, freshman first baseman Ashleigh Dennis and sophomore catcher Kelsey Cyrus each collected a hit, while sophomore pitcher Faith Dickerson (0-3) picked up the loss in a complete game.
 
Stetson scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning to take a 2-0 over the Lady Tigers after the first inning after an RBI single and an RBI walk. The Hatters took a 3-0 lead after a run in the third inning after an RBI double.
 
The Hatters scored four runs in the fourth inning to take a 7-0 lead after an RBI sacrifice bunt, a wild pitch and a throwing error that allowed two Hatters to score and an RBI single and finished off the game with a solo home run in the bottom of the fifth inning with one out. 
 
Stetson was led by Linda Ross going 3-for-3 with two runs and two RBIs, Tara Walding and Maggie Fritts, who went 2-for-3 each at the plate.  On the mound, Tori Perkins (3-1) picked up the win in a complete game giving up three hits.
 
Sophomore third baseman and Dennis were named to the Stetson Lead Off Classic All-Tournament team.  Jones batted .444 (4-for-9) at the tournament with a run scored, a homerun and two RBIs with a slugging percentage of .778 and an on-base percentage of .500, while Dennis batted .300 (3-for-10).

The Lady Tigers stay in Florida with a trip to Boca Raton starting on Friday and finishing Sunday for the "Strike-Out Cancer" Tournament, hosted by Florida Atlantic University.
