Fenner Leads SSU in Exhibition Win Over Paine

SAVANNAH, Ga.- Alanta Fenner scored 29 points to lead Savannah State to a 105-91 win over Paine, in a exhibition game played at Tiger Arena.
 
The crowd saw Fenner shoot 7 of 9 from 3-point range as he finished the game going 10 of 14 from the field.
 
With the score tied at 58, Savannah State scored ten straight points to grab a 68-58 lead with 15:45 left in the game.
 
A basket cut Paine's deficit to eight but the Tigers went on a 21-6 run to increase their advantage to 87-66 with 9:36 showing.
 
A Joshua Floyd layup with 4:34 remaining gave SSU their largest lead of he evening at 100-74.
 
Paine outscored Savannah State 17-5 the rest of the way.
 
Javaris Jenkins came off the bench to add 14 points for SSU while Austin Dasent chipped in ten points, six rebounds and three steals. Dexter McClanahan and Ty'Lik Evans both had nine points.
 
Junior college transfer Juwan Grant led the Tigers with seven rebounds while Zach Sellers dished out six assists to go with his three steals.
 
The first period went back and forth
 
Paine jumped out to a 17-9 lead before the Tigers went ahead 23-21 with 11:51 on the clock.
 
The Lions led 33-26 with 6:20 left in the half before SSU used a 19-9 spurt to take a 45-42 lead with just over three minutes left.
 
Paine led 54-53 at the half.
 
Phillip Garner and Cameron Gaines each had 21 points for the Lions. Gaines also contributed eight rebounds and five blocks.
 
SSU ended the game shooting 38.2 percent from the field and only 25.9 percent from beyond the arch.
 
Paine shot 50 percent from the floor for the game and made 45 percent of their 3-point attempt but the Lions also committed 32 turnovers.
 
Both team had 53 rebounds.
