Allen Named on the All-Tournament Team; WBB Falls to Florida

SAVANNAH, Ga. – Junior forward Kaylee Allen led the Savannah State University women's basketball team with 12 points as the Lady Tigers (1-4) fell to University of Florida (3-3) 90-40 on the Final Day of the Savannah Invitational in the Civic Center on Thanksgiving Day.
 
The Cincinnati, Ohio native led the team during the team averaging 12.7 points per game in three games with 3.3 rebounds per game.  Freshman guard Heniaya Moton scored 11 points and recorded three rebounds, while freshman center Alexxus Sowell recorded her fourth consecutive 10-plus rebound game with 10 rebounds.
 
Florida scored the first seven points of the first quarter to take a 7-0 lead with 8:08 remaining in the quarter, but a Moton basket got SSU on the board to cut the lead to five points, 7-2, with 7:40 left.  The Gators outscored SSU 17-4 during the rest of the quarter to take an 18-point lead, 24-6, after the first quarter.
 
The Gators scored the first four points of the second quarter to take a 20-point lead, 26-6, with 9:35 remaining in the quarter, but Savannah State scored the next three points to cut the lead to 17 points, 26-9, with 8:57 left.  UF outscored SSU 19-3 during the rest of the quarter to increase its lead to 33-point, 45-12, at the half.
 
Florida scored 17 of the first 22 points of the third quarter to take a 45-point lead, 62-17, with 6:29 remaining in the quarter, but the Lady Tigers scored the next four points to cut the lead to 41 points, 62-21.  The Gators outscored SSU 13-3 during the rest of the quarter to increase the lead to 51 points, 75-24, after the third quarter.
 
UF scored the first seven points of the final quarter to increase its lead to 58 points, 82-24, with 7:54 remaining in the fourth quarter, but the Lady Tigers scored nine of the next 11 points to cut the lead to 51 points, 84-33, with 5:52 left.  The Gators scored five of the next seven points to increase the lead to 54 points, 89-35, but Savannah State finished the game scoring five of the final six points to cut the final deficit to 50 points.
 
The Gators were led by Sydeny Searcy with 20 points, Haley Lorenzen with 18 points, Paulina Herseler with 17 points and Delicia Washington with a triple-double of 12 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists.
 
The Lady Tigers travel to Statesboro, Ga., to face Georgia Southern University Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.
