Three WBB Scores Double-Digit Figures; Falls To Richmond in Savannah Invitational

SAVANNAH, Ga. – Three Savannah State University women's basketball student-athletes recorded double-digit scoring figures as the Lady Tigers (1-3) fell to University of Richmond (4-2) 100-63 on Day Two of the Savannah Invitational in the Savannah Civic Center.
 
Junior forward Kaylee Allen led all scorers with 22 points and added six rebounds, while junior guard Donasja Scott added 15 points and six rebounds and freshman guard Heniaya Moton added 14 points.
 
Freshman center Alexxus Sowell recorded a game-high 10 rebounds, her third consecutive 10-plus rebound game, while freshman guard Nadia Farmer and freshman guard Le'Terria Mathis each added five points and Farmer added five rebounds.
 
Richmond started the game scoring nine of the first 11 points to take a seven-points lead, 9-2, with 6:31 remaining in the opening quarter, but Savannah State scored eight of the next 10 points to close within a point, 11-10, with 4:14 left.  The Spiders closed the quarter scoring 14 of the final 18 points to take an 11-point lead, 25-14, after the first quarter.
 
The Spiders scored five of the first seven points to start the second quarter to take a 14-point lead, 30-16, with 7:44 remaining, but Savannah State scored six of the next nine points to cut the lead to 11 points, 33-22, with 5:34 left.  Richmond scored the next six points to push the lead to 17 points, 39-22, with 3:26 left in the first half, but the Lady Tigers scored 10 of the next 16 points to cut the lead to 13 points, 45-32 with 12 seconds left.  A Richmond three-pointer just before the buzzer gave the Spiders a 16-point lead, 48-32, at the half.
 
The Lady Tigers scored 19 of the first 33 points of the third quarter to cut the lead to 11 points, 62-51, with 1:38 remaining in the quarter, but Richmond scored the final eight points to increase its lead to 19 points, 70-51, after the third quarter.
 
Richmond scored the first six points of the fourth quarter to increase the lead to 25 points, 76-51, with 8:27 remaining in the quarter, but Savannah State scored six of the next eight points to cut the lead to 21 points, 78-57, with 7:09 left in the game.  The Spiders scored 22 of the final 28 points to capture the 37-point win.
 
The Spiders were led by Kailyn Fee with 21 points on 7-for-14 from downtown, Amy Duggan with 13 points, Micaela Parson and Tonysha Curry with 12 points each and Jaidee Hinds-Clarke with 11 points.
 
The Lady Tigers finish the tournament on Thanksgiving Day with University of Florida at 7 p.m. in the Savannah Civic Center.
