Scott and Sowell Records Double-Doubles as WBB Defeats Wesleyan 102-39

SAVANNAH, Ga. – Junior guard Donasja Scott and freshman center Alexxus Sowell each recorded a double-double as the Savannah State University women's basketball team defeated Wesleyan College 102-39 in an exhibition game Thursday night in Tiger Arena.
 
Scott recorded a game-high 26 points and 16 rebounds and added two assists, two blocks and two steals, shooting 7-for-10 from the floor in 19 minutes, while Sowell recorded 12 points and 10 rebounds and added four blocks, shooting 6-for-10 from the floor in 25 minutes.
 
Junior Kaylee Allen recorded 19 points in 17 minutes and added six rebounds and two assists, shooting 6-for-12 from the floor, while freshman guard Nadia Farmer added 10 points on 4-for-9 shooting from the floor and freshman forward Kayla Vance added 12 rebounds and six points.
 
Savannah State shot 66.7 (20-for-30) percent from the floor, while Wesleyan shot 35.0 (7-for-20) percent from the floor.  The Lady Tigers outrebounded Wesleyan 67-34.
 
The Lady Tigers scored 10 of the first 12 points in the first quarter to take a 10-2 lead, with 6:24 remaining in the quarter, but a three-pointer by Wesleyan cut the lead to five points, 10-5, with 6:18 left.  Savannah State scored 18 of the final 26 points of the quarter to take an 18-point lead, 28-10.
 
Savannah State scored 18 of the first 24 points in the second quarter to increase its lead to 30 points, 46-16, with 5:59 remaining in the quarter, but Wesleyan scored seven of the next nine points to cut the lead to 25 points, 48-23, 2:46 left.  SSU scored the final nine points to increase the lead to 36 points, 59-23. 
 
After a Wesleyan free throw to start the third quarter to cut the lead to 35 points, 59-24, with 9:28 remaining in the quarter, the Lady Tigers scored 24 of the 32 points in the quarter to take a 51-point lead, 83-32, after three quarters.
 
Wesleyan scored four of the first six points in the final quarter to cut the lead 85-36, with 7:53 remaining in the quarter, but Savannah State scored 17 of the final 20 points for the 63 point win.
 
The Wolves were led by Breyonna Raymond with 18 points and nine rebounds, while TK Blount added 10 points and Taylor Hauser added seven points.
 
The Lady Tigers face Paine College Tuesday at 6 p.m. in Tiger Arena for the final exhibition game of the season before hosting LaGrange College Friday, Nov. 10 at 7 p.m. in Tiger Arena for Savannah State's season and home opener.
