Three WBB Scores Double-Digit Figures; Defeats Paine 85-58 in Exhibition

SAVANNAH, Ga. – Three Savannah State University women's basketball student-athletes recorded double-digit figures as the Lady Tigers defeated Paine College 85-58 in the final exhibition game Tuesday in Tiger Arena.
 
For the second straight game, junior guard Donasja Scott led all scorers with 19 points on 7-for-11 shooting with seven rebounds, while junior Kaylee Allen added 18 points, six rebounds and three steals and freshman guard Heniaya Moton finished with 15 points on 6-for-12 shooting with five assists.
 
Freshman center Alexxus Sowell led the team with 12 rebounds and with six blocks and added eight points and three steals, while freshman center Kayla Vance added eight point, six rebounds and three assists and freshman guard Nadia Farmer added seven points and three rebounds. 
 
Savannah State scored the first 11 points of the game to take a 11-0 lead with 7:14 remaining in the first quarter, but Paine scored seven of the next nine points to cut the lead at six points, 13-7, with 1:22 left in the quarter.  The Lady Tigers scored the final three points to take a nine-point lead, 16-7, after the first quarter.
 
The Lady Tigers scored the first seven points of the second quarter to increase their lead to 16 points, 23-7, with 9:05 remaining in the quarter, but Paine scored 15 of the next 25 points to cut the lead to 10 points, 32-22, with 3:43 left.  Savannah State outscored the Lions 15-7 during the rest of the quarter to take an 18-point halftime lead, 47-29.
 
Savannah State scored 10 of the first 12 points of the third quarter to increase its lead to 26 points, 57-31, with 8:11 remaining in the quarter, but the Lions scored 13 of the next 18 points to cut the lead to 18 points, 62-44, with 2:15 left.  The Lady Tigers scored the final eight points of the quarter to take a 26-point lead, 70-44, after three quarters.
 
Paine scored 11 of the next 19 points to cut the lead to 23 points, 78-55, with 3:31 remaining in the fourth quarter, but Savannah State scored seven of the final 10 points for the 27-point win.
 
The Lions were led by Zhane' Green with 16 points and added nine rebounds, Ashley Washington with 14 points and five assists and Keondra Archie with a game-high 13 rebounds and added seven points.
 
The Lady Tigers begin the regular season with LaGrange College Friday at 7 p.m. in Tiger Arena for the home opener.
