Cajuns Top Tigers

Box Score LAFAYETTE, La.- Louisiana Lafayette led by 23 points after the half and never looked back in a 115-82  win over Savannah State.

The game, which was played at the Cajundome, drew 3,096 fans.

A free throw by Marcus Glenn and layups from Alante Fenner, Dexter McClanahan and Zach Sellers sliced the Tigers deficit to 71-53 early in the second half but a 15-7 spurt by ULL extended the Cajuns advantage to 86-60 with just over 12 minutes remaining.

A 3-pointer by Sellers and a pair of free throws by McClanahan got Savannah State within 87-67 with 9:22 showing but a 18-6 run by the Cajuns put them ahead 105-73 with four and a half minutes left.

The Tigers (1-3) last field goal of the contest came with 2:23 left after Sellers made a steal and a layup to make the score 109-79.

Louisiana Lafayette closed the game with 3-pointers from Jacob Broussard and PJ  Hardy.


Savannah State was led by McClanahan's 17 points while Fenner chipped in 11. Freshman Ralueke Orizu came off the bench to grab a team-high seven rebounds to go with his nine points, which all came from the free throw line.

The Tigers shot 41.3 percent from the field, made 35.3 of their 3-point attempts and shot 60 percent from the free throw line.

Savannah State trailed 13-10 less than five minutes into the game but the Cajuns began to get some separation thanks to a trio of 3-pointers by Cedric Russell and a pair of dunks by Jakeenan Gant as part of a 16-2 run for a 29-12 lead.

A pair of free throws by Marcus Stroman started a 10-2 run by the Cajuns that put them up 52-32 with 4:52 left in the half.

Down by 23, two free throws by Fenner with 23 seconds left cut the Tigers gap to 21 as they headed into intermission down 67-44.

The Cajuns (2-1)were led by Bryce Washington and Frank Bartley who had 21 points apiece. Washington also had 15 rebounds while Stroman had 11 assists.

Louisiana Lafayette made 53.8 percent of heir shots from the field and 45.7 from beyond the arc. The Cajuns, who out-rebounded Savannah State 52 to 32, were a cool 53.6 percent from the free throw line.
