Quint and Rullan Vilanova Records Double-Doubles; VB Wins Season Finale 3-2 over SCSU

SAVANNAH, Ga.  – Senior setter Alee Quint and freshman outside hitter Amanda Rullan Vilanova each recorded a double-double as the Savannah State University women's volleyball team (4-24, 2-8 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) defeated South Carolina State University (1-26, 0-10 MEAC) 3-2 (25-15, 22-25, 22-25, 25-21, 15-11) for the fourth straight match against the Bulldogs on Senior Day for the season finale in Willcox-Wiley Gymnasium.
 
Quint led the team with 31 assists and added a career-high 12 digs for her third career double-double at Savannah State, second this season, while Rullan Vilanova led the team with a match-high and a career-high 16 digs and added 10 kills for her first collegiate double-double.  Quint added a match-high and a career-high five service aces and Rullan Vilanova added a career-high four assists, a service ace and a block.
 
Freshman middle blocker Tyran Chenault led the Lady Tigers with a career-high 15 kills with a .444 hitting percentage with four blocks, while junior outside hitter Jennifer Rosado added 11 kills with a .269 hitting percentage and led the team with a game-high and a career-high six blocks, which is tied for third most in school history, and added three assists and four digs. 
 
Freshman setter Salma Gonzalez added 13 assists and connected on both attacks for a perfect hitting percentage and added two blocks, while senior outside hitter Jademone Jones added a career-high 11 kills with a .733 hitting percentage.  Freshman outside hitter Brooke Sanford added 12 digs, while freshman libero Leiri Melendez added 10 digs, two assists and a service ace.
 
Savannah State hit .283 for the match, including .667 in the first set, while South Carolina State hit .210, while the Lady Tigers recorded 10.0 total blocks and 60 digs compared to the Bulldogs 6.0 blocks and 54 digs.
 
South Carolina State scored three of the first four points of the first set to take a 3-1 lead, but Savannah State scored eight of the next 12 points to take a two-point lead, 9-7.  After back-to-back points by the Bulldogs to tie the set at nine, Savannah State scored the next four points to reclaim the lead 13-9, but SCSU scored the next three points to close within a point, 14-13, forcing a Savannah State timeout.
 
After the timeout, the Lady Tigers scored the next six points with Sanford serving to increase their lead to seven points, 20-13.  SSU outscored SCSU 5-2 during the rest of the set to win the set by 10 points and to take a 1-0 match lead.
 
Savannah State scored five of the first six points of the second frame to take a four-point lead, 5-1, but South Carolina State scored nine of the next 14 points to tie the set at 10.  The Lady Tigers bounced back by scoring the next three points to take a 13-10 lead, but SCSU outscored SSU 15-9 during the rest of the set to win the set by three points and to tie the match at one.
 
South Carolina State scored eight of the first 13 points to take a three-point lead, 8-5 in the third stanza, but Savannah State recorded back-to-back points to cut the lead to a point, 8-7.  The Lady Tigers scored six of the next 11 points to take a point lead, 13-12, but the Bulldogs scored nine of the next 14 points to take a three-point lead, 21-18.  Savannah State scored four of the next five points to tie the set at 22, but the Bulldogs scored the final three points to win the set by three points and to take a 2-1 match lead.
 
Savannah State scored 12 of the first 16 points in the fourth set to take an eight-point lead, 12-4, but the Bulldogs scored 11 of the next 14 points to tie the set at 15.  With Quint serving, the Lady Tigers scored the next four points to take a 19-15 lead and extended the lead after scoring four of the next six points for a six-point lead, 23-17.  SCSU scored the next three points to cut the lead to three points, 23-20, but SSU scored two of the final three points to win the set by four points and to tie the match at two.
 
With Quint serving to start the final set, the Lady Tigers scored the first seven points to take a 7-0 lead, but the Bulldogs scored eight of the next nine points to tie the set at eight.  Savannah State scored seven of the final 10 points, including a kill from senior Jones to end the match, to give SSU a four-point set win and to win the match.
 
The Bulldogs were led by Alexus Holt with a game-high 18 kills, Jenai King with a match-high 36 assists and with 14 digs for a double-double.  Holt also recorded a double-double with 10 digs and Marcella Chestnut nearly missed on a double-double with nine kills and 10 digs.
 
The Lady Tigers finish the season with four wins, the most since 2014, with all wins coming against Division I opponents, the most in school history in one season.
