SAVANNAH, Ga. – The Savannah State University women's volleyball team (3-20, 1-5 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) continues MEAC play with two matches in Florida this weekend. The Lady Tigers face the Southern Division leader Bethune-Cookman University (8-11, 5-0 MEAC) Friday at 3 p.m. in Daytona Beach and Florida A&M University (7-11, 4-1 MEAC) Sunday at 1 p.m. in Tallahassee.
The Lady Tigers are led by junior outside hitter
Jennifer Rosado with 1.50 kills per set, senior setter
Alee Quint with 4.18 assists per set and freshman libero
Leiri Melendez with 3.12 digs per set.
Freshman middle blocker
Tyran Chenault leads the team with 0.85 blocks per set and is third with 1.33 kills per set, while freshman setter
Salma Gonzalez averages 1.96 digs per set, 3.03 assists per set and 1.19 kills per set and freshman outside hitter
Amanda Rullan Vilanova, who is averaging 2.47 kills per set in the last five matches, is second on the team with 1.50 kills per set on the season.
The Lady Tigers fell to both Bethune-Cookman 3-0 (18-25, 17-25, 18-25) Sept. 29 and FAMU (3-2) Oct. 1 to begin MEAC play in Willcox-Wiley Gymnasium.
In the BCU match, Chenault led the Lady Tigers with 10 kills, while Quint led with 12 assists and freshman outside hitter
Brooke Sanford and Melendez each led with 11 digs. BCU was led by Alana Handy with 10 kills, Phalen Clark with 37 assists and Rechez Lindsay with 14 digs.
In the FAMU match, freshman middle blocker
Oneillia Fuller led the Lady Tigers with 12 kills, while Quint led with 20 assists and Melendez led with 22 digs. FAMU was led by Maria Yvette Garcia with 17 kills, Ilayda Nurkan with 43 assists and Valentina Carrasco with 22 digs.
BCU has lost the last three matches, including two non-conference matches against MEAC opponents of Howard University (3-1) and University of Maryland Eastern Shore (3-0). The Wildcats are led by Jordan Jefferson with 3.21 kills per set, Clark with 10.12 assists per set and Lindsay with 3.93 digs per set.
FAMU is 4-2 in the last six matches, but fell at University of Alabama Birmingham 3-1 last time out. The Rattlers are led by Nicole Abreu with 3.40 kills per set, Elena Dimitrova with 8.52 assists per set and Carrasco with 4.64 digs per set.
The Lady Tigers return home to face North Carolina A&T State University Friday at 6 p.m. in Tiger Arena as part of Tiger Week and a doubleheader with the men's basketball team against Paine College at 8 p.m.
