Warren’s 3-Pointer Sends Game in Overtime; WBB Defeats MSU 66-62 in OT

SAVANNAH, Ga. – Senior guard Rhianna Warren hit a three-pointer with two seconds left in the fourth quarter to tie the game at 57 to send it into overtime as Savannah State University (5-13, 3-3 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) defeated Morgan State University (2-16, 0-5 MEAC) 66-62 in overtime in Tiger Arena for the Lady Tigers third consecutive win. 
 
The Lady Tigers started the fourth quarter down by two points, 47-45, but Morgan State increased its lead to five points, 55-52, with 2:16 left in the quarter.  Two made free throws by Kenyata Hendrix cut the lead to three points, 55-52, and the Bears missed four consecutive free throws before senior center Tiyonda Davis' layup cut the lead to a point, 55-54, with eight seconds left.
 
Morgan State hit both of the free throws to take a three-point lead, 57-54 with eight seconds left before Warren's three-pointer to send it into overtime.  Both teams made two baskets each to keep the game tied at 61 with 2:33 left, but SSU scored five of the final six points for the six point win.
 
Graduate student guard Lauren "Gaby" Moss led the team with a career-high 24 points on 8-for-14 shooting from the floor and added four rebounds, while Hendrix added 18 points and a career-high seven assists. 
 
Davis missed on a double-double with a game-high 11 rebounds and nine points on 3-for-4 shooting from the floor and added five blocks, while Warren added nine points and senior forward Jeremica Edwards added seven rebounds.
 
A jumper by senior guard Taylor-Ashley Shaw got the Lady Tigers on the board to take a 2-0 lead with 9:22 remaining in the first quarter, but Morgan State scored the next four points to take a two-point lead, 4-2, with 7:25 left.  Savannah State scored the next eight points to take a six-point lead, 10-4, with 4:57 remaining, but the Bears scored 11 of the final 17 points to cut the lead to a point, 16-15, after the first quarter.
 
Morgan State scored the first four points of the second quarter to take a three-point lead, 19-16, with 8:56 remaining in the quarter.  Savannah State scored the next five points to take a two-point lead, 21-19, with 6:56 left, but Morgan State scored 10 of the next 16 points to take a two-point lead, 29-27, with 2:36 remaining.  Savannah State scored the next six points to take a four-point lead, 33-29, with 39 seconds left, but a Bears layup with 13 seconds cut the SSU lead to two-points, 33-31, at the half. 
 
The Bears scored the first four points of the third quarter to take a two-point lead, 35-33, with 8:11 remaining in the quarter, but Savannah State scored five of the next seven points to take a three-point lead, 38-35, with 6:51 left.  Morgan State scored nine of the next 13 points to take a four-point lead, 46-42, with 1:38 remaining, but a layup by Davis cut the MSU lead to two points, 46-44, after the third quarter.
 
Morgan State scored 11 of the first 17 points to increase its lead to five points, 55-50, with 2:57 remaining, but the Lady Tigers scored seven of the final nine points to tie the game at 57. 
 
The Bears were led by Jihayah Chavis with 15 points, Tykyrah Williams with 11 points and six rebounds, Braennan Farrar with 10 points and Tayler Miller with eight points and seven rebounds.
 
The Lady Tigers finish the two-game homestand with Delaware State University (2-16, 1-4 MEAC) Monday at 6 p.m. in Tiger Arena.
