SAVANNAH, Ga. – The Savannah State University (0-8) continues its season with the ISTAP Collegiate Cup Invitational in Montgomery, Ala., this weekend.
The Lady Tigers start with Chicago State University on Friday at 3:30 p.m. and finishes with host Alabama State University at 10 a.m. and Troy University at 5 p.m. Saturday.
These three matches will be the first matches played outside the state of Georgia this season as the Lady Tigers played three matches in Athens, Ga., four in Statesboro, Ga., and one in Savannah, Ga.
Freshman middle blocker
Dominique Ingram leads the team with 1.96 kills per set and with 0.64 blocks per set, while senior setter
Caitlynn Masoe is averaging 1.84 kills per set, 2.16 assists per set, 1.32 digs per set and 0.24 blocks per set.
Junior setter
Alee Quint leads the team with 4.56 assists, while senior libero
Alexis Washington leads the team with 3.12 digs per set.
The Lady Tigers fell to East Carolina 3-0 (12-25. 16-25, 19-25) in the first home match of the season for SSU last Sunday. SSU also went 0-4 in the Bash of the 'Boro last Thursday and Friday losing to The Citadel 0-3 (22-25, 11-25, 24-26), Charleston Southern 0-3 (18-25, 16-25, 14-25), Georgia Southern 1-3 (9-25, 20-25, 25-23, 14-25) and Jacksonville State 0-3 (15-25, 13-25, 12-25).
Chicago State (0-6) is also looking for its first win of the season. The Cougars went 0-3 at the Kansas Invitational with losses to Kansas (0-3), Arkansas (1-3) and Maryland (0-3). CSU is led by Juma Armando and Dzeni Hadzisehovic with 2.25 kills per set, while Kelsey Taylor leads the team with 3.65 assists per set and Kiana Chaney with 3.25 digs per set.
After winning the first match against North Carolina A&T (3-2) to start the season, Alabama State (1-6) has lost the last six matches, including going 0-3 at the Wildcat Classic last weekend with losses to Arizona (0-3), Pepperdine (0-3) and Southern Methodist (0-3). The Lady Hornets are led by Ni'yesha Brown with 2.05 kills per set, while Kori Kutsch leads the team with 4.09 assists per set and Jamie Coleman with 2.91 digs per set.
Troy (3-4) went 1-3 at the Trojan Invitational last weekend with a win over Southern (3-0) and losses to Valparaiso (1-3) and New Mexico State (0-3). The Trojans are led by Symone Shaw with 2.56 kills per set, Reina Terry with 7.00 assists per set and Bethany Cullity with 2.71 digs per set.
The Lady Tigers return home to face Charleston Southern Tuesday at 6 p.m. in Willcox-Wiley Gymnasium before heading to Charleston, S.C., for the Bulldog Invitational from Sept. 16-17.
